With the AFC and NFC Championship games in the rearview mirror and the Super Bowl on tap next week, Jordan and I discuss what’s happened since the end of the regular season and what’s to come during the offseason.
Up for discussion:
The Bears’ connection to the Super Bowl
Adam Gase‘s exit to Miami (who is Dowell Loggains?)
The contract situations of Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffery
Brian Urlacher‘s hair
The surprisingly adequate play of the OL (including Matt Slauson)
With the Bears now 5-8, we take a step back from the Xs and Os this week to discuss some big-picture topics: Is Robbie Gould done in Chicago? What should the Bears do this offseason of Matt Forte? Alshon Jeffery? How do we grade John Fox and his coordinators’ first year in Chicago?
In this week to discuss these topics and more is friend of the show and the man behind the Twitter handle @ChicagoBearJew.
The loss to the 49ers was as disappointing as the Thanksgiving win over the Packers was exciting, and it all but eliminate any chance the Bears had of making the playoffs.
Amid the Bears’ poor play — two missed FGs by Robbie Gould the most obvious — Jeremy Langford and Ka’Deem Carey continue to impress at running back, and we discuss their futures, as well as the futures of Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett, who was placed on injured reserve this week.
The defensive breakdown on Blaine Gabbert‘s long TD run
In this week’s episode, Jordan and I discuss the Bears’ 24-point victory over St. Louis — did anyone really see that coming? — preview this weekend’s game against Denver and welcome guest Mike Byrne from NFC North Barroom.
Topics this week include:
The emergence of TE Zach Miller
How the Bears contained RB Todd Gurley
The magic of Vic Fangio
The respective futures of RBs Jeremy Langford and Matt Forte with the Bears
The Bears’ WR corps without Alshon Jeffery
Adam Gase and John Fox facing their former team this weekend
QB Brock Osweiler‘s debut for the Broncos
We also dive into the offensive line and even talk a little CFL with Mike Byrne, a Bears blogger and fan based in Toronto, Canada. You can read his work on NFC North Barroom here and follow him on Twitter here.
Jordan and I discuss the Bears’ comeback win against San Diego — which included the emergence of RB Jeremy Langford and an impressive game-winning catch by TE Zach Miller — and look ahead toward what will be a tough task against a formidable Rams defense this weekend.
At the halfway point of the 2015 season, we also hand out some unofficial midseason awards to the best and worst Bears performances to date and talk about a couple players who could emerge over the second half of the season.
The Bears are coming off their first win of the season — thank you Robbie Gould! — but making it two in a row might be an uphill climb in Kansas City this weekend.
Jordan and I discuss all of the good and the bad from the win over the Raiders, including Pernell McPhee‘s dominance and the surprisingly solid performance of the Bears’ defensive secondary vs. Amari Cooper.
We also tackle this week’s lengthy injury report, which is seemingly affecting every position on the field — especially wide receiver and the offensive line. Among those unlikely to play are Antrel Rolle and, for a fourth straight game, Alshon Jeffery.
The Chiefs, only 1-3 this season, are nine-point favorites. Let’s hope the Bears can prove Vegas wrong.
