Episode 32: Week 14 Preview vs. Redskins — That Was Fun While It Lasted

Listen on iTunes or stream here:

The loss to the 49ers was as disappointing as the Thanksgiving win over the Packers was exciting, and it all but eliminate any chance the Bears had of making the playoffs.

Amid the Bears’ poor play — two missed FGs by Robbie Gould the most obvious — Jeremy Langford and Ka’Deem Carey continue to impress at running back, and we discuss their futures, as well as the futures of Matt Forte and Martellus Bennett, who was placed on injured reserve this week.

Also discussed:

  • The defensive breakdown on Blaine Gabbert‘s long TD run
  • Pernell McPhee‘s absence on defense
  • The play of Kyle Fuller and rookie Adrian Amos
  • Another 1,000-yard season for Brandon Marshall
  • Having Eddie Royal and Kevin White back in the fold (The Chicago Tribune is now reporting White will not return this season.)
  • What needs to happen for the Bears to make the playoffs

We also talk about this week’s game against the Redskins. Here’s to hoping DeSean Jackson runs backwards against the Bears, too.

Episode 29: Week 9 Preview vs. Chargers — Trade Deadline, Philip Rivers’ Kids and WTF Jeremiah Ratliff?

Listen on iTunes or stream here:

After a brief hiatus, Jordan and I are back to discuss a long list of topics:

  • The quiet NFL trade deadline
  • Matt Forte‘s status and how Jeremy Langford fits with the Bears
  • Alshon Jeffery‘s long-term future
  • Kyle Long, Matt Slauson and the rest of the offensive live
  • The re-emergence of  Kyle Fuller
  • How Pernell McPhee might be the NFL’s best free agent signing
  • Jay Cutler‘s performance, on and off the field
  • Crazy Jeremiah Ratliff

We also take a quick look at the Chargers — this is a winnable game for the Bears on Monday night — and note that Philip Rivers’s wife is expecting the couple’s eighth (!) child.

Episode 28: Week 5 Preview vs. Chiefs — Is Anyone Not Injured?

Listen on iTunes or stream here:

The Bears are coming off their first win of the season — thank you Robbie Gould! — but making it two in a row might be an uphill climb in Kansas City this weekend.

Jordan and I discuss all of the good and the bad from the win over the Raiders, including Pernell McPhee‘s dominance and the surprisingly solid performance of the Bears’ defensive secondary vs. Amari Cooper.

We also tackle this week’s lengthy injury report, which is seemingly affecting every position on the field — especially wide receiver and the offensive line. Among those unlikely to play are Antrel Rolle and, for a fourth straight game, Alshon Jeffery.

The Chiefs, only 1-3 this season, are nine-point favorites. Let’s hope the Bears can prove Vegas wrong.

Episode 27: Week 4 Preview vs. Raiders — Goodbye, Jared and Jon

Listen on iTunes or stream here:

It’s been a busy week for the Bears following the embarrassing 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.

At least the offense and special teams embarrassing. The defense, led by Pernell McPhee, put forth a respectable performance, allowing just one first down before Seattle’s final drive of the first half.

Since then, the Bears traded both Jared Allen and Jon Bostic and released Brock Vereen. They also brought in another punter after Pat O’Donnell wore out his leg punting on EVERY SINGLE DRIVE against the Seahawks.

Joining the podcast as a guest host this week, to discuss all these topics and more (like why the Bears shouldn’t be afraid to trade Alshon Jeffery), is the The Bear Jew. He’s the man behind the Twitter handle @ChicagoBearJew and never minces words. You can follow him here.

We also discuss the awfulness of Jimmy Clausen, Kyle Fuller‘s woes and what The Bear Jew will be keeping his eyes open for in Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

Episode 26: Week 3 Preview vs. Seahawks — It’s Jimmy Clausen Time!

Listen on iTunes or stream here:

QB Jay Cutler is out at least two weeks with a hamstring injury, so that means, unfortunately, it’s Jimmy Clausen time.

Jordan and I discuss the merits of both Clausen and third-stringer David Fales. We also talk about the recent performances of players like RB Jeremy Langford, CB Kyle Fuller and OLB Pernell McPhee. Oh, and the fact that the Seahawks are 16-point favorite in this week’s game.

Our guest for Episode 26 is repeat visitor and friend of the show, James Neveau. James writes about the Bears (and other Chicago sports) for NBC Chicago. You can find all of his work here. You can also follow him on Twitter.

James and I debate whether or not turning to Clausen is the right move, both for the short term and long term, and if there are any viable free agent options available. Kyle Orton? Rex Grossman?!?!
